With the Directorate of Education's Social Internship
Program, students get a chance to work on and spread awareness about issues
that are prevalent, relevant for the 21st century, and that they are passionate
about. Aside
from learning valuable digital literacy skills, interns also acquire research
skills, workshop organization skills, public speaking skills, teamwork skills,
leadership skills, etc. These are skills that
cannot be cultivated within
the classroom, but once developed and honed, they are beneficial for
students at every stage of life. Additionally,
the internship helps students expand their knowledge base regarding the topic
of their research. In
addition to the basic knowledge that they may have about the given topic, the
opportunity for further research, interaction with other students, and the
organization of workshops expands their knowledge. By
conducting workshops, DOE's internship program also exposes students to diverse
groups and communities. Students
also gain social and psychological satisfaction from being successful in
spreading awareness and creating solutions through internships. A
major benefit of this internship is that no prior experience is required to
enroll. Any student, regardless of which school they attend, can
become an intern, garner
experience and spread awareness and bring about change in their
surroundings. The Social Internship Program by DOE provides students with a
platform to work on and provide solutions for issues that affect today's
society
and bring about
a change for the better.
